Prosser Knowles Associates Ltd Bake Off

Inspired by the popular TV show Great British Bake Off, some of the Prosser Knowles team decided to organize PKAL Bake Off in October to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity, who are at the forefront of the fight to defeat brain cancer and help the lives of people with a brain tumour and their families.

Two judges, Ayman Abdullah and Angela Bagagiolo, were appointed and the rest of the team were invited to bake and or buy the delights produced.

On the evening before and the day of the event, there was a lot of activity on social media with camaraderie, support and photos of the work in progress from the bakers together with the results and photos of the winners.  There were even accusations of cheating! Nevertheless, as a result of this unintended marketing we even managed to sell some cakes to a local sandwich shop in Worcester!

There were seven entries which consisted of three Victoria sponge cakes from Vanessa Coates, Edward Dalley and Nick Aston (special mention to Paula Aston who made Nick’s entry); a tray bake from Dale Gough, a carrot cake from Lauren Jones, a chocolate cake from Jonathan Bissett and a lemon drizzle cake from Edward Brecknell.

A valiant effort culminated in an interesting and enjoyable experience for all (including the postman who was happy to sample several slices) with there being three joint winners – Jonathan Bissett, Lauren Jones and Edward Brecknell.

In total sixty one pounds was raised for The Brain Tumour Charity and the team have since made PKAL Bake Off a regular thing, raising money for various charities.  The PKAL Bake Off biscuit category took place in November (with the winner being Ed Brecknell again with his Florentines) raising funds for Movember and a Christmas themed bake off is planned for December, with the MS society being the planned benefactor.
